African Spring

This exhibition's 'African Spring' theme focuses on the elements and impressions of the region's long dry season.

Many visitors to Africa view the African seasons in the European or American context of four distinct seasons - Spring, Summer, Autumn (Fall), and Winter.  But much of Africa really has only two seasons: dry and wet.  If we had to apply Western names to these, they would have to be 'spring' and 'summer'.

In this exhibition, the aim is to show the various important elements of the region's habitats and how they survive the extended dry season without rain; the abundant fresh water resource and how it keeps habitats alive; other habitats that have adapted to arid conditions; and how habitats that often seem waterless and 'dead', surge with life as the dry season temperatures increase in expectation of the next rains.
