Image information
Title: | LZmMut_101V - Giant Termite Mushroom in Miombo Woodland, Termitomyces titanicus, Mutinondo Wilderness, N Zambia. |
Caption: | Several countries seem to stake a claim to being home to the World's largest mushroom. This is 'Chingulungulu' and is Zambia's largest, with a claim to being the World's largest edible mushroom. Either way, it's certainly big, growing up to and beyond 1m in diameter. Its specific name titanicus, says it all. It is one of the Termitomyces fungi and so it has a fascinating biology including a close symbiotic relationship with termites. |
