A two-man exhibition with landscape painter Quentin Allen
Photographer Stephen Robinson and painter Quentin Allen often
join up to travel together on remote bush expeditions.
They find this a good working combination, given that both
landscape photographer and painter often need to spend extended
time seeking out landscape scenes and then waiting at, or
returning to, particular locations to capture the right light
and weather conditions.
The
exhibition combined the painter’s landscape paintings and the
photographer’s panoramic
Spirit of the Land
work of the same or similar scenes.
The wacky title of this exhibition came about when, in jest, the
painter and photographer gave their porters some appropriate
nicknames, following the funny incidents inherent in every bush
trip. Only later did they find out that they too had been given
suitably Africanised nicknames: “Foto-Foto” and “Sketchi-Sketchi”.
